Chris Stubbs
Chris is an incredible keyboardist and vocalist and we are thrilled to have him as a new member of the band.
When
did you start playing music and what made you start?
I started playing the piano at about 7 or 8, just playing around, picking out melodies. In a few years I was picking it up pretty well and I started playing organ and piano in church. I never have had any piano lessons. I played sax in my 8th grade band at school and I was able to do well just playing by ear. My band teacher was impressed and put me in first chair of the sax section for a little while until she discovered I wasn't reading the music!
How did you come to join Jupiter Hollow?
I knew Rick from about 13 years ago when we worked on a recording project together, but I hadn't seen him in years. One night out of the blue I ran into Rick and he said his band needs a piano player. I figured that it was probably a pretty good band, knowing Rick. But when I saw them a few nights later, I thought 'this is the kind of music I've been wanting to play' and I jumped in.
What
were some of your most memorable gigs?
I had great time at a Carnival Cruise Ship talent show. My wife and I were on a cruise and they had a talent show. There were about 10 of us performing - they gave everyone a gold trophy with a cruise ship on it. It was a great crowd though, about 1,800 people in the audience.
What
other bands and musicians have influenced
or inspired you?
I'll have to say Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder. And Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers, big time! One more person for inspiration: Andrae Crouch - he has travelled the world with his gospel music.
What music are you listening to these days?
Some Phil Collins, Sadé, and Jody Watley.
What
are your other interests besides music?
Basketball - especially Blazers basketball. And I love being around the ocean, walking on the beach, but I don't go often enough.
