Sean
Jackson
"Born
March 12th, 1964 in Los Angeles, California.
Raised near Prescott, Arizona. Graduated
from West High School in Phoenix, Arizona
in 1982. Current age is 43. I am a quarter
Irish, a quarter Scottish, a quarter
African-American, and a quarter Cherokee
Indian (with Pennsylvania Dutch, Swedish,
French, and German sprinkled in there.)
I have been married since August 30th, 1998
to a beautiful woman named Theora Heckler.
We recently reconciled and fell in love with
each other again after being separated for
over 6 years. We have no children. I have
also been a devout, solitary practitioner
of the neo-pagan religion Wicca since August
10th, 1974 (though I did delve into Buddhism,
New Age, and Rastafarianism for awhile, as
well). I also eat only poultry and seafood
as far as meat goes (absolutely no beef or
pork under any circumstances) though I hope
to become a devout vegetarian one day because
of my concern for how we treat animals."
When did you start playing music and what made
you start?
Age
1-1/2: started humming the exact chords to
a song. I think it was "Me and Bobby McGee" sung
by Janis Joplin, written by Kris Kristofferson.
Scared the shit out of my mom and dad. Started
playing piano
at age 4. Got my first live gig on my 13th birthday.
I started partially because my dad was also a pianist
and also because it came naturally to me and would
not let me go. So I figured "if you can't
resist, assimilate."
How long have you played with Jupiter Hollow?
October 1999 - July 2001 and from February 2002 to
the present. So I've played with Jupiter Hollow for
a grand total of 7 years and 4 months.
What were some of your most memorable gigs?
1.
The show at the first Family Affaire (which I didn't
play in but was a spectator) because Les Claypool
followed them
2. The show at what was "Chez Ray's" on
June 14th 2001. I still have the cassette tape.
3. The show at the Shining Star festival on June
2002, in Cave Junction, Oregon
What other bands and musicians have influenced or inspired
you?
1-The Beatles; 2-Jethro Tull; 3-The Grateful Dead;
4-Phish;
5-Bob Marley & The Wailers; 6-Scott Huckaby; 7-Audioslave;
8-The Doors; 9-Pink Floyd; 10-Boston.
What's the last thing you listened to?
Kimberly Dahme - she's a very talented singer/songwriter
guitarist who also happens to currently play bass guitar
for the rock group Boston. Also, my cassette tape of
Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "Brain Salad Surgery."
What are your other interests besides music?
Reading; writing; hiking; helping to take care of my wife's
property in Cedar Flats, which is between Walterville and Springfield,
Oregon; "woodshedding", "practicing my craft",
gigging (work), and I've recently taken up yoga.
